1. Program Description
WCTD's SMS program delivers informational and promotional text messages to subscribers who have opted in. Messages may include:
- Program updates and schedule changes (e.g., UpSkill, Hack-A-Thon, Student-Led Programs, Community Ambassador Program, AmplifiCore)
- Event reminders and time-sensitive announcements
- Registration confirmations, deadlines, and appointment reminders
- Volunteer and workforce partner opportunities
- Occasional news about WCTD initiatives, impact, and ways to get involved
WCTD will not use your mobile number for any message category outside those described here.
2. How to Opt In
You can opt in to receive SMS messages from WCTD by:
- Checking the SMS consent box on a WCTD online form (e.g., mailing list signup, program application, volunteer form)
- Providing your mobile number with written or verbal consent during enrollment, event registration, or direct outreach
- Texting a keyword to a WCTD short code or long code where applicable
By opting in, you represent that you are the subscriber or authorized user of the mobile number you provide, and that you are at least 18 years old — or, if under 18, that a parent or legal guardian has consented on your behalf.
3. Message Frequency
Message frequency varies based on WCTD's programs, events, and announcements. You will generally receive no more than a few messages per week, and fewer during quieter periods. WCTD does not send continuous or high-frequency marketing blasts.
4. Cost
Message and data rates may apply. Your mobile carrier may charge you for sending and receiving text messages based on your plan. WCTD does not charge for SMS messages, but we are not responsible for carrier charges incurred as a result of this program. Contact your wireless carrier for details about your plan.
5. How to Opt Out
You can cancel the SMS service at any time.
Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe. You will receive one final confirmation message and no further messages from the program.
Reply HELP for assistance, or contact us at info@we-connect-the-dots.org or (704) 710-6825.
Additional stop-keywords recognized by our system include CANCEL, END, QUIT, and UNSUBSCRIBE. To rejoin the program after opting out, complete a new opt-in on a WCTD form.
6. Carrier Disclaimer
WCTD's SMS program is available on most major U.S. mobile carriers, including AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, U.S. Cellular, Boost Mobile, MetroPCS, Cricket, Virgin Mobile, and others. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Message delivery is subject to your mobile carrier's transmission conditions and coverage. WCTD is not responsible for any delays in delivery.
7. Privacy
Your privacy matters to us. Information you provide in connection with the SMS program — including your mobile number and opt-in consent — is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Specifically:
- We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile number with third parties for marketing purposes.
- Mobile numbers and SMS opt-in data are not shared with affiliates, partners, or any third party except as required to operate the SMS program (e.g., our SMS service provider, Twilio, which processes messages on our behalf under a data processing agreement).
- Your opt-in consent and any messaging preferences are retained only as long as needed to operate the program and comply with legal obligations.
8. Minors
Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian provide consent before opting in to WCTD's SMS program. Parents and guardians may opt a minor out at any time by replying STOP from the minor's device or contacting us directly. See our Privacy Policy for additional information about how we handle data from minors under COPPA and applicable state laws.
9. Eligibility
The SMS program is intended for subscribers with mobile phones on U.S. wireless carriers. WCTD makes no guarantee that the program will function on international numbers or specific carriers not listed above. International messaging rates may apply if you are outside the United States.
10. Changes to These Terms
WCTD may update these SMS Opt-In Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our program, legal requirements, or carrier rules. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. If we make material changes to the program, we will notify active subscribers via SMS or email before the changes take effect, where feasible.
