This is a 5-day program where students have the opportunity to experience first-hand the roles involved in the engineering fields focused on robotics. Students will work in teams of 6-8 to understand the design of a Humanoid Robot as a foundation of robotics engineering. The learning continues as the teams study the inner workings of the robot, the design thinking that went into creating the robot, and how these robots relate to humans.

Through fun, engaging activities throughout the week, students will learn about design thinking and engineering concepts. They will work with their teams to have fun and get creative as they design and engineer their own concepts. Students will take a journey to understand the opportunities and the roles involved within the rapidly growing robotics industry. This program is more than playing with “cool” robots; it expands a student’s mind so they can better understand the value surrounding the excitement of robotics across many STEAM industries and career paths.

The program begins with teaching students about the hardware design and learning through reverse engineering. Students then engage in smaller engineering projects to build foundational skills to learn a number of components involved in robotics. The week concludes with a capstone project where the teams will engineer their own designed project that demonstrates their competencies learned during the week. They must ensure the design supports solving a problem that is impactful to our lives in a positive way. Students will present a final 2 to 3 minute demonstration of their design. Teams must meet timelines for the deliverables and demonstrate strong collaboration skills at all times. Industry experts will judge the final projects, and the teams will compete for exciting prizes.
